Railway merger fought by residents of one Iowa town

Chief Dave Schutte of the Camanche Fire Department fears a proposed merger of Kansas City Southern and Canadian Pacific will delay emergency services if crossings are blocked for extended periods of time.

Residents of at least one small town in Iowa are putting up a fight against the proposed merger of two railroad companies, contending it will increase not only the number of trains but dangers to them.

The $31 billion merger of Kansas City Southern, a railway that runs through eastern Oklahoma, and Canadian Pacific Railway could receive federal approval in 2023.

The residents of Camanche, Iowa, a small town along the Mississippi fear their lives will be in danger according to the Kansas City Star.
