Oil prices made only a weak gain on Friday and as a result, Oklahoma energy stocks suffered losses as high as 7% for the day.
The mild increase in crude prices came as a spill at the Basra terminal in Iraq put a restriction on the world crude supply. Still, crude prices for the week were down overall and the reason was because of fears the Federal Reserve will adopt perhaps a 75 basis point increase or even go as high as a full 1% jump.
West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery managed a 1 cent increase to $85.11 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for delivery in November rose 51 cents to finish the day at $91.35 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
October natural gas fell 7% or 56 cents to $7.76 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Losses seemed to be the order of the day Friday for Oklahoma energy stocks. What gains made were slight while the losses ranged all the way up to more than 7% for Mammoth Energy. Gulfport dropped 5% and Devon Energy slid 4%.
