Based on weekly peak count, the U.S. rig count saw a weekly rise of 14 to a 2022 high of 879 during the week ended Sept. 28, according to Enverus Foundations data.
The count is up 2% in the last month and up 43% YOY. All numbers discussed are weekly peaks to avoid the sometimes wide variability of daily numbers.
Four of the six major plays hit 2022 highs in the last week. The Anadarko Basin added two rigs, bringing its total to 80, while the Gulf Coast also added two at 120. The other two plays to hit 2022 highs, the DJ and Appalachia, added one rig each, bringing their totals to 23 and 61 rigs.
The Permian and Williston basins were flat on the week at 321 and 43 rigs.
