In a letter attacking the oil and gas industry and blaming it for high gasoline costs, four Democratic U.S. Senators wrote President Biden urging him to consider a number of steps including his authority to limit oil exports.

Sens. Jack Reed, Tammy Duckworth, Tammy Baldwin and Jeanne Shaheen praised the President for the steps he already has taken in attempting to lower the cost of gasoline.

“The bottom line is that the policies enacted by your administration are not stopping companies from increase production,” they wrote.

“If the companies continue to choose profit over production and overseas producers choose to buttress Putin’s invasion, it is clear that American families deserve additional measures.”

The four Democrats said that would include his authority to limit crude oil exports under the National Emergencies Act and the Defense Production Act.
