More than two weeks after Oklahoma congressman Frank Lucas complained about the lack of movement by Democratic leadership in a conference committee on technology, things got going this week on capitol hill.

Despite the criticism from Rep. Lucas, the ranking member on the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, the Democratic chair, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas contended the time was not wasted.

“Committee staff, on a bipartisan, bicameral basis, have engaged in several good policy discussions with each other and with NSF over the last several weeks in preparation for negotiations,” Johnson said.

Republicans and Democrats were to begin their talks this week on what is described as one of the most significant pieces of legislation on technology, research and development in recent years reported Roll Call.

It was earlier in April with Congressman Lucas heavily criticized Democratic leadership for being too slow in beginning the process as reported by OK Energy Today.
