Oil and gas rig growth reported by Bakers Hughes

The most recent count of oil and gas rigs from Baker Hughes showed a growth of 3 to a total of 613 rigs in the U.S. while the number in Oklahoma dropped by one to 50 rigs.

Nationally, the count included two more oil rigs for a total of 497 nationwide while the number of gas rigs increased by one to 116. This past week’s count is 221 more than the 392 rigs reported a year ago. The increased numbers include 198 more oil rigs and 24 more gas rigs.

Texas remains highest with 287 rigs, an increase of 3 in the past week. New Mexico’s count slipped two to 92 while the number in North Dakota grew by 3 for a total of 30 active rigs.

Louisiana fell two to 55. Kansas saw its one slip one to 42 rigs according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service of Wichita. Colorado was unchanged at 12 rigs while Ohio gained one to reach 12 rigs. Pennsylvania lost two to finish at 21 rigs and West Virginia gained one for a total of 12 rigs.

Wyoming remained at 15 rigs.

Of course, the Permian Basin remains the most active play with an increase of one for a total of 294 rigs. The Williston gained four to reach 31. The Haynesville stayed at 54 rigs.

The Arkoma Woodford fell by one to leave one active rig while the Cana Woodford slipped by one to 25. The D-J Basin was unchanged at 12 and the Granite Wash gained one to reach 5 active rigs.

The Marcellus count dropped one to 33 while the Mississippi was unchanged at one rig. The Utica play picked up one to reach 12 rigs.
