Enverus reports rig growth across the U.S.

New figures from Enverus Rig Analytics show not only a national rig count increase but growth in the Anadarko Basin.

They also reveal Chesapeake Energy is among the most active operators in Louisiana, home to the Haynesville shale play.

The U.S. rig count increased by four in the last week to 737 as of Feb. 23, according to Enverus Rig Analytics, putting it 3% above where it was a month ago and up 66% YOY. The daily count reached as high as 747 during the week, compared to a peak of 740 during the prior week—a seven-rig peak-to-peak increase.

Zooming in on increases at the state level in the last month, Louisiana stands out with a 14-rig rise to a total of 60. Newcomer Southwestern Energy added the most rigs, three, bringing its total to 11, including three on its GEP Haynesville acreage that it acquired at YE21.

Aethon Energy and Comstock Resources added two rigs each during the period, to reach nine and four, respectively. Southwestern and Aethon are the most active operators in the state, followed by Chesapeake Energy (six), Comstock and GeoSouthern Energy (four)—still going strong after the GEP sale. Most of the state’s 60 active rigs are running in the Haynesville/Bossier play.
