Oklahoma regulators came out with a formal directive on Tuesday regarding the 4.5 magnitude earthquake that struck Monday morning in northern Oklahoma.

The Corporation Commission’s Oil and Gas Conservation Division issued the order for Arbuckle oil and gas wastewater disposal wells around the epicenter of the quake near Clyde in Grant County.

Under the directive, Arbuckle oil and gas wastewater disposal wells operating within six miles of the earthquake’s epicenter will be shut down indefinitely. There are 7 wells in all, with 4 currently injecting.

Arbuckle disposal wells operating within 6 to 10 miles of the earthquake’s epicenter will be restricted to their 30 day reported average volume or 500 barrels a day, whichever is less.

The Arbuckle is the state’s deepest formation.
