Rig activity in Oklahoma and the U.S. increased in the past week according to the latest report from the Baker Hughes Co.
Oklahoma’s count grew by 2 to 46, far more than the 14 rigs reported a year ago at this time.
Nationally, the count increased by 7 to 576. The number of oil rigs grew by 4 to 471 while the number of gas rigs increased 3 to 105. The U.S. count is 238 higher than a year ago when there were only 338 active rigs. In the past year, the growth included 213 more oil rigs and 26 more gas rigs.
Texas remains the core of most oil and gas drilling activity with 272 rigs, one more than a week ago. New Mexico’s count increased 2 to 90 while North Dakota was unchanged at 27 rigs.
The Red Top Rig Report from the Independent Oil & Gas Service in Wichita indicated the Kansas rig count increased by one to 43. Colorado continued with 12 rigs while Louisiana saw a gain of one rig to 48. Ohio’s count increased by one to 11 while Pennsylvania lost one to drop to 18 rigs. West Virginia gained a rig to reach 12 while Wyoming was unchanged at 15 active rigs.
Activity in the Arkoma Woodford declined by one rig leaving only 2 rigs. The Cana Woodford added 2 to 25 while the D-J Basin in Colorado stayed at 11 rigs.
The Eagle Ford of South Texas saw a gain of 2 to 44 rigs. The Granite Wash in Oklahoma added a rig to reach 4. The Haynesville stayed at 46 while the Marcellus was unchanged at 30.
The Permian Basin activity increased by 3 to 286 rigs. The Utica added a rig to reach 11 while the Williston was unchanged at 27.
