Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt hopes he was able to convince energy executives in Mexico to bring their businesses to Oklahoma.
The Governor traveled to Mexico City this week as part of an effort to attract new industries and business to the state.
“I told Oklahomans that I was a businessman, that I would bring Oklahoma to the world, and the world to Oklahoma,” Stitt said according to KOCO TV News.
The TV station reported that Gov. Stitt defended his travel to Mexico.
“You know, when I was building my business, nothing beat sitting down face to face. Relationships matter. I truly believe that,” Stitt said.
Traveling with him was Commerce Secretary Scott Mueller.
“We’ve got a company on Thursday we’ll be within Monterrey, out of Oklahoma City — they are building out their company and hiring folks as we speak,” Mueller said.
The governor also held discussions with Mexican leaders regarding their recent choice of Oklahoma City as the site for a new Mexican consulate.
