Baker Hughes rig numbers grow nationally—steady in Oklahoma

Texas growth offsets rig count dip elsewhere

 

The weekly rig report released by Baker Hughes shows an increase nationally while the count in Oklahoma remained steady at 44.

Oklahoma’s count was unchanged from a week ago and also from the previous week, based on numbers offered by Baker Hughes.

Nationally, numbers increased by 7 to 563 oil and gas rigs which is 253 more than a year ago when there were 310 active rigs.

The latest national count showed an increase of 7 oil rigs to reach a total of 461 oil rigs while the number of gas rigs was unchanged at 102.

The past year’s increase included 230 more oil rigs and 26 more gas rigs.

The state of Texas had the biggest increase in the number of drilling rigs—7 to reach a total of 271. New Mexico’s count grew by 2 to 83 rigs.

North Dakota was unchanged at 23. Colorado stayed at 12 and Louisiana continued with 49 rigs. Ohio’s count slipped by 2 to 10 rigs while Pennsylvania stayed at 18 rigs.

Kansas added one to reach a total of 41 rigs according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil & Gas Service. West Virginia added one rig to reach 11 while Wyoming’s rig count was unchanged at 15.

The Permian Basin saw an increase of 6 rigs to reach 278 in West Texas and southeast New Mexico. The Arkoma Woodford stayed at 3 rigs while Baker Hughes reports no rig activity in the Ardmore Woodford. The Cana Woodford was unchanged at 24.

The DJ Basin count dropped by one to 11 while the Eagle Ford numbers grew by one to 42.

The Marcellus added a rig to reach 29 while the Utica count fell by 2 to 10 rigs. The Williston was unchanged at 24 rigs.
