Nation’s rig count continues to grow while Oklahoma is unchanged

Rig count soars in Oklahoma, nationwide

 

While the nation’s total number of active oil and gas rigs grew by four in the past week, the country’s major shale drilling area, the Permian Basin, the Williston and the Anadarko Basin was unchanged.

Figures released by Baker Hughes showed a total count of 479 active oil and gas rigs including an addition of 2 more oil rigs bringing the oil rig count to 378. The number of gas rigs increased by 2 to reach 101. Offshore rigs increased by 3 to a total of 17.

The US count is 221 higher than a year ago when there were 258 and includes an addition of 197 oil rigs and 26 more gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s count of 27 is unchanged from a week ago but far more than the 10 rigs active one year ago. Texas saw its count grow by 2 to 224 rigs. Colorado’s count slipped by one to 12.

Louisiana added one to reach 53 while New Mexico numbers were unchanged at 75 working rigs. North Dakota stayed at 18 rigs while Ohio increased by one to 10 rigs.

Pennsylvania’s count fell by one to 18 rigs and West Virginia added one to make a total of 10 active rigs. Wyoming numbers increased by one to 10 rigs while the rig count in Kansas, according to the Red Rig Top Report stayed at 30 rigs.

The Ardmore and Arkoma Woodfords each had one rig, same as a week ago. The Eagle Ford of South Texas was unchanged at 32. The Granite Wash in Oklahoma stayed at 2 rigs and the Haynesville was unchanged at 49 rigs.

The Marcellus continued with 28 rigs. The Permian Basin was unchanged at 237. The Utica play added a rig to settle at 10 rigs while the Williston of North Dakota continued with 18 rigs.
