Nation’s oil and gas rig count increased in past week

 

The number oil oil and gas rigs actively seeking new energy in the U.S. rose by 5 in the past week to reach 475 while Oklahoma’s numbers were unchanged.

Oklahoma’s rig count remained at 27 compared to the 10 rigs reported one year ago this past week according to figures supplied by Baker Hughes Co.

Nationally, the new rig count included 4 more oil drilling rigs bringing the total to 376 while the number of gas drilling rigs grew by one to 99. The U.S. count is 212 higher than a year ago when the nation had 263 active rigs in play. In the past year, the increase included 191 oil rigs and 23 gas rigs while the number of offshore drilling rigs was unchanged at 14.

Texas remains the nation’s leader with 222 rigs, up one from a week ago and nearly double the 112 rigs a year ago. New Mexico was unchanged at 75 rigs last week while North Dakota’s figures increased by one to 18 rigs.

Colorado added 3 rigs to reach a total of 13 while Louisiana was unchanged at 52. Ohio stayed at 9 and Pennsylvania had a gain of one to 19 working rigs. West Virginia stayed at 9 rigs while Wyoming slipped one to 9.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service of Wichita showed the Kansas rig count increased by 2 to reach 30 rigs. The report indicated Kansas had 483 drilling permits issued by the state year to date, an increase of 16 in the past week.

Drilling rig counts decline in Oklahoma and across the U-S – Oklahoma  Energy Today

The oil plays indicated drillers aren’t in a mad rush to send their rigs into the field. Drillers are being cautious despite the $75 a barrel oil prices. Oklahoma’s Ardmore and Arkoma Woodfords each had one rig in play, same as a week ago.

The Granite Wash was unchanged at 2 rigs. The D-J Basin count increased by 2 to 11 rigs. The Eagle Ford stayed at 32. The Permian Basin count grew by one to 237. The Haynesville was unchanged at 49 and the Marcellus numbers increased by one to 28. The Utica stayed at 9 rigs while the Williston numbers increased one to 18 working rigs.
