A slight increase on Thursday left crude oil prices at their highest mark in three years and brought Oklahoma energy stocks along for the ride with slight gains.
West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery, considered to be the U.S. benchmark rose 22 cents and finished the day at $73.30 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The global benchmark, Brent crude oil for August delivery went up 37 cents and closed at $75.56 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
As for July natural gas, it rose 9 cents to $3.42 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Most Oklahoma energy stocks saw gains in Thursday’s trading but not major increases. One exception was Laredo Petroleum Inc. which recorded a gain of 6.94% on an increase of $5.63 to settle at $86.75 per share.
Mammoth Energy Services gained 5.47% on a 22 cent jump to $4.24. Others saw slight gains and a few experienced losses.
