Rig count sees slight increase in US and remains steady in Oklahoma

 

The nation’s count of oil and gas rigs actively drilling for new energy increased by two to 440 according to the latest rig numbers released by Baker Hughes Co.

Oklahoma’s count was unchanged from the 21 reported last week at this time but was still higher than the 15 rigs reported one year ago.

Nationally, Baker Hughes indicated the latest national count of 440 included a decline of oil rigs by one to 342 while the number of gas rigs increased by two to 96.

Compared to a year ago, the national figures are 32 higher than the 408 reported last year. The increase includes 17 oil rigs and 15 gas rigs.

Texas saw an increase of one rig to reach 212, up from the 201 reported a year ago. New Mexico’s count slipped by one to 70, still four more than last year at this time.

Colorado stayed at 10 active rigs and North Dakota’s count of 15 was unchanged from a week ago.

Ohio was unchanged at 10 rigs and Pennsylvania’s count of 18 was the same as one week earlier. West Virginia was unchanged at 11 rigs and Wyoming stayed at four rigs.

Oklahoma’s Woodford plays still did not report any rig activity, at least based on the Baker Hughes Company count. The D-J Basin was unchanged at 7 rigs and the Eagle Ford of South Texas increased by one to 34 rigs.

Oklahoma’s Granite Wash was unchanged at three rigs. The Haynesville stayed at 45 and the Marcellus continued with 29 rigs.

The Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico saw a decline of two  ri9gs to 224, still five more than one year ago.

The Utica saw no change with 10 active rigs and the Williston remained at 15 working rigs.
