Oklahoma U.S. Reps were among GOP leaders urging the Biden Administration to oppose energy policies that restrict the construction of more American pipeline capacity and undermine the nation’s energy security following the cybersecurity attack on the Colonial Pipeline Company.

Oklahoma Reps. Frank Lucas, Tom Cole, Markwayne Mullin, Kevin Hern and Stephanie Bice were among nearly 60 members who said the crisis brought about by a Russian criminal group “highlights the need” to invest in the nation’s critical infrastructure.

““We urge you to reevaluate the regulations and permitting processes that prevent construction of new pipelines to distribute fuel throughout the country and the expansion of domestic refining capacity,” wrote the members of Congress.

The letter urged President Biden to reject irresponsible policies like the Green New Deal and instead focus on true energy infrastructure reforms that allow the construction and permitting of new pipelines and refineries.

“Your early actions as President have only made our nation more fuel insecure and exacerbated cost disparities between different parts of the country,” they stated in the letter that was also signed by members of the House Energy Action Team or HEAT. Rep, Mullin is a co-chair of HEAT.
