Evergy to close two Kansas coal plants as part of its plan to cut carbon emissions

Kansas electric company Evergy says it is closing two of its coal-fired plants in the state, one near Lawrence and another near St. Marys.

The investor-owned utility said it will close the two plants within the next nine years. The Kansas City Star reported Evergy on Friday filed an integrated resource plan that is required by regulators every three years.
