US rig count shows slight gain in past week

The US rig count in the past week increased by six, reaching a total of 406 according to the data analysis firm Enverus based in Austin, Texas.

The company’s daily tracking of rigs by its Rig Analytics Division showed the count is up 9% in the past month, but still down 51% compared to one year ago. None of the major basins saw any major changes over the past week.

The Anadarko Basin managed to add nine rigs to reach 22 so far in the second half of the year translating into a 70% increase.

The Permian Basin is up 43 at 172. The Gulf Coast, including the Eagle Ford of South Texas jumped nearly two and one-half times and is up to 42.

The DJ Basin in Colorado rose to nine. The Appalachian basin remains flat at 37 and the Williston in North Dakota and Montana added only three rigs at 13. A year ago, the Williston had nearly four times as many rigs running in the basin, according to Enverus.

The nation’s other rig tracking numbers by Baker Hughes Co. won’t be available until later on Friday.
