Crude fell again in Thursday’s trading, reaching a 7-week low

A slight drop in crude oil prices on Thursday sent them to nearly their lowest level in seven weeks following a bigger fall on Wednesday. It came after weaker global demand for crude oil, increasing crude stocks plus dashed hopes for a cut in US interest rates.

West Texas Intermediate crude, considered the US benchmark dropped 5 cents to close at $78.95 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It was the lowest WTI level since March 12.

Brent crude, the global benchmark finished down 23 cents or 0.3% at $83.67 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe, the lowest since early March.

June natural gas rose 11 cents to $2.04 per 1,000 cubic feet.

Oklahoma energy stocks were mixed in Thursday’s trading. While Empire Petroleum jumped more than 7% in value, Mammoth Energy fell 4% on the heels of a disappointing first quarter financial report.

Other energy stocks also were mixed in Thursday’s trading, according to the Texas Energy Report.
