Texas Governor fights nuclear storage facility in Permian Basin

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott made it clear to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission he does not want a nuclear storage operation in his state, nor in the Permian Basin which is one of the most productive oil and gas regions in the country.

The Roswell Daily Record reported that in a Nov. 3 letter he sent to the NRC, Gov. Abbott urged the agency to deny a license to develop a facility to store up to 40,000 metric tons of uranium in Andrews County, Texas.

Andrews County is north if Midland and Odessa and adjacent to the state line with New Mexico.
