Ameren’s renewable energy plan sparks questions about costs and its coal plants

 

Industry experts, in the wake of an $8 billion renewable energy plan released by St. Louis-based Ameren, are questioning how the region’s electric monopoly could both pay for substantial new wind and solar projects and also cover existing coal plant costs — without overburdening ratepayers.
