Texas regulator comes out against forcing cut in oil production

Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Wayne Christian wrote in an op-ed for the Houston Chronicle that he does not support forcing cuts in crude production in his state — a proposal that will be voted on at a May 5 meeting after a lengthy virtual meeting earlier this month.

POLITICO reported Christian writes that “a government mandate cutting oil production 20 percent across the board would not have a significant impact on worldwide oil supply,” and instead points to industry reducing production on its own. “By allowing the free market to work, producers can determine for themselves what level of production is economical.”
