The coronavirus pandemic resulted in the layoff this month of more than 400 workers at the Hertz Administrative Center in Oklahoma City.
Word was finalized this week at the Oklahoma Office of Workforce Development. A notification by Hertz indicated the layoffs of 415 workers happened between April 14 and April 20 at the center located at 14505 Hertz Quail Springs Parkway in Oklahoma City.
In a WARN alert sent by spokeswoman Karen Gittleman of Hertz, the layoffs were blamed on the pandemic.
“The COVID-19 public health crisis continues to have a profound and sustained adverse impact on the global economy in general and the rental car industry specifically. The rapid and drastic
decline in travel volumes due to COVID-19, have caused car rental bookings to fall off dramatically, causing unforeseen business circumstances that were not reasonably foreseeable at
the time that notice may have been required under the federal Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act.”
She also provided a lengthy list of the jobs that were eliminated.
