Koch Fertilizer changing ammonia transportation methods

The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality is considering air permit requests of some industrial operations including one by the Koch Fertilizer in Enid.

Koch recently learned that the ammonia pipeline used to ship some of the ammonia from the plant located 5 miles east of Enid will soon be permanently shut down. The line is owned and operated by a third party. As a result, Koch Fertilizer is pursuing a project to increase ammonia upgrade capabilities to reduce ammonia shipments while at the same time better servicing the growing demand for upgraded nitrogen projects.

The project is known as the UR2 Improvements project which will increase urea melt production capacity. Ammonia will still be shipped by truck and rail transportation.

DEQ is also considering a renewal of a permit by Lone Star Industries, Inc. in Mayes County. Lone Star, doing business as Buzzi Unicem USA operates a cement manufacturing plant with three kilns, two raw mill circuits, three finish mills and two quarries located east of the city of Pryor.

Because the plant emits more than 100 tons per year of a regulated pollutant, it is subject to permitting requirements.
