Billions added to New Mexico’s economy by Permian oil and gas operations

The impact of the oil and gas exploration in the Permian Basin hasn’t just helped Eastern New Mexico, but the entire state, according to a new study.

For instance, the oil and gas in Eddy County, the heart of the Permian in southeastern New Mexico added more than $1 billion to the state’s school tax and $1.2 billion to its severance tax. Plus, the industry over a six year period added $3.2 billion to education in New Mexico and $1.9 billion to health and human services, according to a report by the Carlsbad Current Argus.
