Rose State proposes State Center for Cyber Security

Rose State College in Midwest City wants to be home to a proposed Oklahoma Center for Cyber Security.

It already boasts of having the largest Cyber Security degree program in Oklahoma with nearly 300 students enrolled in the program.

But now it wants to do more and has asked the federal government for financial assistance. A public notice indicated the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration is considering a request from Rose State for federal assistance to construct the Center for Cyber Security.

“The project will expand the George Epperly Business Building to house the Oklahoma Center for Cyber Security,” stated the notice.

It explained that the proposed investment will include 2,920 square feet of remodeling and expansion of the existing facility.

“This project will enable the College to increase the pipeline of desperately needed cyber security students to employers,” continued the notice. It said the project will be located at 6420 SE 15th street in Midwest City.

OK Energy Today attempted to contact Rose State college officials for more information but there was no response to our email request.

Rose State’s Cyber Security program is considered to have the highest enrollment in the state with 280 students in the fall 2018 semester. Students can earn an Associated Degree in Applied Science in Cyber Security. Credits can be transferred under an agreement with the University of Tulsa and OSU-IT in Okmulgee.

Rose State offers their AAS in Cyber Security 100% online, in-class or a combination of both. With the growing demand for the program, Rose is also offering certain classes in an accelerated 8-week format to ensure students can finish the program as quickly as possible.
