Rig counts declined in Oklahoma and most other energy producing states in past week

Like most states in the oil and gas producing region, Oklahoma reported a loss of drilling rigs in the past week. Baker Hughes Co. reported Oklahoma’s count dropped by 2 to reach 115.

Of the oil plays in the state, the Granite Wash, which includes the Texas Panhandle remained steady at 5 working rigs. The Mississippian, which stretches into southern Kansas dropped one to 9 rigs. The Woodfords remained steady at 10 rigs.

Nationally, the count fell by 9 to 1,038 with the number of oil rigs dropping by 10 to 843 while there was an increase of one gas rig to reach 195. Compared to a year ago at this time, the national count is still 57 more than the 981. This past week’s offshore rig count increased by 3 to reach 22.

Most surrounding states reported declines in rig counts. Kansas, according to the Independent Oil and Gas Service’s Red Top Rig Report dropped 4 working rigs to 25. Colorado remained at 34 while New Mexico’s count dropped one to 107. The rig count in Texas declined by 5 to reach 503.

The count in Louisiana grew by one to hit 65 while Wyoming’s rig count dropped by one to 36.

Of the other oil plays, the Permian Basin’s count slipped 7 to 466. The Marcellus remained at 62. The Eagle Ford stayed at 82 while the D-J Niobrara declined by one to 31.
