Oklahoma congressional delegation relays rural concerns to FCC

Oklahoma’s congressmen are telling the head of the Federal Communications Commission they have some serious concerns about government regulations covering wireless and broadband service to rural America.

They sent a letter last week to Ajit Pai, chairman of the FCC and urged him to carefully evaluated any challenges submitted from mobile service carriers about the FCC’s Mobility Fund Phase II Process.

As the Oklahoma Farm Report indicated, the letter was lead by Rep. Frank Lucas who said Oklahoma’s rural service proves believe the current process at the FCC is “burdensome and costly to smaller wireless and broadband carriers.”
He and the other Oklahoma Representatives asked Pai to give more time to the evaluation process. The letter also claimed that the FCC’s request of companies providing the wireless and broadband service to rural Oklahoma “fails to ensure sufficiently accurate maps can be produced to guide the Mobility Fund auction.”

He says if the FCC decides that some rural areas are served, they will not get Universal Service Fund help for up to a decade and it could adversely affect economic development in the rural parts of the country.
