Ag Secretary says there are positives to poultry farm developments in NE Oklahoma

Oklahoma Agriculture Secretary Jim Reese is working to soothe feathers, so to speak, over the controversial growth of poultry farms in northeast Oklahoma.

Residents and environmentalists contend the operations will only add to the pollution of the Illinois River and area lakes.

As Ron Hays with the Oklahoma Farm Report reported this week, Reese is working to mend fences between farmers and their neighbors.

“There is economic benefit,” he interjected. “We just need to be certain that personal lives are not affected in an egregious way and there are some examples where there just wasn’t a lot of consideration to neighbors. Just being a good neighbor goes a long way.”
