Nation’s oil and gas rig count tumbled by 13 while Oklahoma remained steady

While the nation’s oil and gas rig count slipped by 13 in the past week, the number of active rigs in Oklahoma stayed at 140.

Figures from Baker Hughes Co. and the Red Top Rig Report showed the national count fell to 1,044. The number of oil rigs fell by 9 to 860 while the number of gas rigs tumbled by 4 to 182. Still, the U.S. rig count in the past week was 104 more than the 940 reported a year ago.

In Canada over the past week, the country gained 17 rigs to reach 229.

Oklahoma’s count of 140 compared to 103 in New Mexico where the count slipped by one. The count in Kansas gained 6 in the past week to reach 50 while in Texas, the count grew by 3 to reach 528 working oil and gas rigs.

North Dakota’s count fell by 4 to 562 while Louisiana lost 7 rigs and landed at 54. Colorado remained at 30 working rigs.

Of the oil plays, the Permian Basin saw its count fall by one to 485. The Mississippian remained at 4 while the Granite Wash stayed at 15. The Eagle Ford stayed at 79 and the D-J Niobrara in Colorado and Wyoming was steady at 24. The Woodfords in Oklahoma remained at 9.
