Sierra Club elated over Pruitt’s departure—-warns his successor will be more of the same

Environmental groups were elated over Thursday’s announced resignation of Scott Pruitt at the Environmental Protection Agency.

The Sierra Club said it was time Pruitt got the boot, calling him “the most corrupt EPA administrator in history.”

“Thousands of people called on their senators to boot Pruitt and nearly 100,000 Sierra Club members and supporters sent emails calling for his resignation,” said Mary Anne Hitt, the Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign Director in an email response.

“We fought long and hard to get Pruitt out, and we won’t stop there. The same energy and passion that helped boot Scott Pruitt will be focused on ensuring the next EPA administrator works for the public, not corporate polluters,” she added.

Hitt threw some of the same criticism she had for Pruitt against the man who is taking over for him.

“Andrew Wheeler, the new acting EPA administrator, has spent the last decade lobbying for corporate polluters and denies climate science. If confirmed, he would bring the same dangerous ideology, policies, and judgement of Scott Pruitt to the top spot at the agency.”
