The American Wind Energy Association’s fourth quarter 2017 market report on wind farm construction in the U.S. shows Oklahoma remains number two nationally, behind only Texas.

The industry installed 4,125 megawatts of new wind capacity from 29 new wind projects in 16 states in the fourth quarter of 2017.  Texas led with 1,179 MW installed while Oklahoma was second with 851 MW followed by Iowa at 334 MW, Illinois at 306 MW and Missouri with 300 MW.

Kansas had no new wind farm additions in the third and fourth quarters but the first and second quarter construction resulted in 659 MW for 2017.

Oklahoma remains second in total capacity with 7,495 MW while Iowa is second at 7,308 MW.

The report indicated there is continued construction activity in Oklahoma and other states.  Oklahoma  is one of 20 states with ongoing construction.  Arkansas has a 180 MW wind project underway too. Texas still leads construction with a 31% share of total activity.
