Mullin Breaks Pledge—-Will Seek a 4th Term Saying He Wants to Make a Difference

U.S. Rep. Markwayne Mullin announced July 4 he will forego his pledge to serve only six years in the U.S. House and seek a 4th term. The Republican who serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and three of its subcommittees and is a deputy Republican whip admits he made a mistake six years ago in pledging to serve only three terms.

“We understand that people are going to be upset,” admitted Rep. Mullin in an 11-minute video he released on social media. “We get that. We understand that. I’m not hiding form that. Because we did say we’re going to serve six years.”

But in the video where he and his wife Christie Mullin discuss the family decision, the congressman pointed to making a difference.

“I don’t want to just be up there occupying a seat. “I’ve seen such a turnaround with this new administration, with President Trump that when we came to a conclusion, the answer was yes, yes, we can make a difference.”

The congressman also admitted he didn’t know what kind of politics he was entering when he became a member of the House six years ago.

“I didn’t have any idea what politics was like. I was surprised at how difficult it is to get something done. In the private world, if I have an idea, I just do it.”
