Indicted Oilman Aubrey McClendon Killed in Traffic Crash

A day after Aubrey McClendon was indicted on bid-rigging charges, the 56-year old former President of Chesapeake Energy is dead.

Police in Oklahoma City confirm McClendon was killed in a fiery one-car crash around 9 a.m. at NE 122nd and Midwest Boulevard. Firefighters and police found the body in the burned wreckage of the small SUV after it slammed into an overpass abutment.

There is no word whether the crash was an accident or otherwise.

But it occurred less than 24 hours after an Oklahoma City federal grand jury indictment was unveiled against McClendon, accusing him of conspiring between 2007 and 2012 to rig land lease bids in northwest Oklahoma.

McClendon, also a part owner of the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team apparently was alone in the SUV at the time of the incident.
