Newly-re-elected 2nd District U.S. Representative Markwayne Mullin (R) is intent on making sure Oklahomans voice opposition to the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed ‘Waters of the United States’ Clean Water Act rule.
He spoke to two groups last week while winning re-election on Tuesday. One was in Broken Arrow and another was in McAlester. While Democrats are contesting the election because of the death of Democratic candidate Earl Everett just a few days before Tuesday, they are calling on the governor to set a special election as required by state law.
Still, Mullin used the campaign trail to also campaign against what he and others in Congress call an ‘over reach’ by the EPA. Rep. Mullin is reminding Oklahomans that the deadline for them to comment about the controversial rules is November 14.
“We need to be very vocal about the EPA’s regulatory overreach,” wrote Mullin in a weekly newsletter. “If the EPA redefines “navigable waters” to include all rivers and streams, our farmers and ranchers may be required to apply for a permit to continue working on their own land—even if your operational practices haven’t changed for years!”
He’s urging Oklahomans to quickly offer a comment.
