Rig count gains in Oklahoma

The nation’s number of active oil and gas rigs increased in the past week and Oklahoma saw a gain as well, according to the latest Rig Count released by the Baker Hughes Co.

The US count rose by 3 to reach 551 rigs while Oklahoma’s total grew by one to hit 45 active rigs in the state. Nationally, the increase included 5 more oil rigs for a total of 415 while there was one-rig decline in the number of gas-drilling rigs to 128. The miscellaneous rig county across the country fell by one to 8 and the offshore total declined as well by one to 17 rigs.

Oklahoma’s total of 45 rigs compares to 55 reported a year ago. It also compares to Texas where there was a 5-rig increase to reach 245 total oil and gas rigs.

New Mexico added one for 96 rigs while North Dakota, another oil-rich producing state, was unchanged at 26. Colorado’s count stayed at 11.

The Red Top Rig Report in Kansas showed the state with a loss of 3 rigs, leaving 17 active.

California’s count of 7 was same as last week and Alaska had no change with 12 rigs. Ohio’s total of 11 remained the same while Pennsylvania saw a drop of one to 17 rigs. Utah continued with 13 and the count in Wyoming stayed at 16.

The U.S. count is still 25 below last year’s total of 576 including a drop of 50 oil rigs with a gain of 20 gas drilling rigs. The miscellaneous count is 5 higher than a year ago.
