Energy independence in the US

While the war in Iran put a chokehold on oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, thus severely impacting supplies to Asia and Europe, the U.S. has not experienced such harm and increased oil production in Oklahoma and other states is the reason why.

A recent report by Climate Crisis 247 ranked Oklahoma among the top ten states where oil production rose since 2008 when the nation’s oil production reached an all-time low for the 21st century.

In 2008, the U.S. oil production dropped to 5 million barrels per day but 11 years later, things were reversed and it proved to be the first year of energy independence for the nation. Production has been on the increase ever since and according to the report, increased production ranked Oklahoma number five.

The group used data from the EIA and identified the states that made American energy independence possible.  The report’s list was as follows: 10: Pennsylvania, 9: Utah, 8: West Virginia, 7: Ohio, 6: Wyoming, 5: Oklahoma, 4: Colorado, 3: New Mexico, 2: North Dakota, 1: Texas.

No surprises there with maybe one exception and that was Colorado’s oil production outpaced Oklahoma.
