Brockovich monitors data center growth

Erin, environmental advocate with 30+ years promoting sustainable practices, leading the AI Data Centers Community Awareness initiative

Noted environmental activist Erin Brockovich has joined the list of those raising serious questions about the environmental impact of data centers and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across the U.S.

She has recently started a website devoted to covering the topic across the country. Called “Brockovich AI Data Center Reporting,” the site not only includes a map of proposed data centers and BESS projects across the nation but an explanation why she created it.

“The RACE to build AI infrastructures is unfolding town by town across America. In some places, data centers are welcomed. In others, they are delayed, contested or abandoned altogether. This MAP captures the real-world footprint of that race — revealing patterns of growth, conflict and uncertainty.

I am watching as YOU, the communities show up and speak out. In the famous words of Mark Twain … “The secret of getting ahead is getting started,” so let’s go!

— Erin”

Her site also explained people have been reaching out to her regarding existing or upcoming AI data centers “located in the heart of their community.”

Brockovich gained notoriety in 1993 following her work with attorney Ed Masry in building a case  against Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) involving groundwater contamination in Hinkley, California.
The successful investigation and lawsuit were later the subject of the Oscar-winning film, Erin Brockovich (2000), starring Julia Roberts as Brockovich and Albert Finney as Masry.
Brockovich has not only become a media personality but now is president of Brockovich Research & Consulting and works as a consultant for the New York law firm of Weitz & Luxenberg,[1] which has a focus on personal injury claims for asbestos exposure, and Shine Lawyers in Australia.
