What state regulators discussed behind closed doors

In their latest meeting at which the public was not invited, Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners discussed a possible interim study relating to oil and gas.

Commissioners met behind closed doors on the afternoon of June 25 and huddled for more than one hour in a conference room of the Will Rogers Memorial Office buildiing at the capitol. The meeting started at 3:11 p.m. and ended at 4:25 p.m. according to a filing of the Open Meeting Act Exempt Event Compliance form. All three commissioners, Kim David, Todd Hiett and Brian Bingman were present.

The form showed there was a discussion of internal processes which was the focus of the oil and gas protest docket. But details were not provided.

A second discussion focused on the staffing deeds for the administrative law judges, attorneys, and court reporters. Again, details were not revealed.

The third area of private discussion ws “receiving informational updates from Corporation Commission staff on the businesses of the Corporation Commission, as long as such updates do not pertain to pending legislative proceedings of the Corporation Commission.” The form stated that commissioners “discussed the emailed weekly report from OCC staff and proposal that each commissioner separately consider if a biweekly or monthly report is preferred.”  Nothing was revealed about what commissioners stated in the discussion.

The fourth and final topic was the scheduling of items to be set before the Corporation Commission for an emergency, regulator, or special meeting.

“Discussed adding presentations/updates fromo division directors to future commission meetings,” stated the form which was filed on June 26, a day after the private session.

In addition to the three commissioners, six staff members were present. They were: Jeff Kline (Legal Advisor to Commissioner David), Erica O’Neal (Regulatory Assistant/Paralegal to Commissioner David), Jared Haines (Administrative Aide to Commissioner Bingman), Louis Jackson (Advisor to Commissioner Bingman), Nicole King (Legal Advisor to Commissioner Hiett) and Brandy Wreath (Director of Administration).
