A recent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to restart plans to temporarily store nuclear waste in rural Texas and New Mexico could mean even more opposition by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

At the same time, the company that applied for a federal license to build a storage site in West Texas indicated it is abandoning the project, which only adds to confusion over the court decision.

Texas legislators sent a bill to the governor to allow nuclear waste to only be stored where a nuclear reactor is operating. But the governor has yet to give his approval to any expansion of nuclear energy in the state.
