Remember when President Biden took oil out of the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower the country’s gasoline prices?
Oklahoma’s congressional delegation squawked about it at the time and charged Biden did it only for political purposes. But now the Trump administration is in no hurry to refill the Reserve even though President Trump had pledged to replenish it. It was confirmed by White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. And the Trump administration contends there is a good reason for not rushing to refill it.
Her comments backed up the testimony of Energy Secretary Chris Wright who went before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and discussed the emergency oil reserve which is at its lowest level since the 1980s. He explained the SPR drawdowns by former President Biden left structural damage to the facilities and more than $100 million in repairs are needed to bring them back up to full capacity.
