The nation’s number of oil and gas rigs actively in pursuit of more energy resources declined even more in the past week and Oklahoma followed suit, according to the latest Rig Count report from Baker Hughes Co.
Oklahoma’s count dropped one and as a result 46 rigs remain in active exploration. A year ago, the state’s rig count was 34.
The U.S. count fell by 7 to 547. The number of oil rigs fell by 6 to 432 and the number of gas rigs declined by two to 109. The miscellaneous rig count grew one to a total of 6. The nation’s rig total is down 34 from a year ago when the count was 581. The decline included a loss of 47 oil rigs while the number of gas rigs in the past year increased by 12. The number of miscellaneous rigs over the past year increased by one while the offshore ocunt fell by two, leaving 12 still in exploration.
The count in Texas was unchanged at 258 and New Mexico stayed at 92. North Dakota remained at 29 rigs while Louisiana’s total declined by one to 31 rigs.
Colorado’s count slipped by one to 8. Kansas increased its count by one in the past week to reach 12 rigs, according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil & Gas Service Inc. in Wichita, Kansas.
Alaska remained at 10 active rigs and California continued with a count of 6. Ohio was unchanged with 11 rigs and Pennsylvania stayed at 18. Utah had no change with 9 rigs and West Virginia remained at 7. The count in Wyoming fell 5 rigs, leaving a total of 18.
