Williams begins plans for North Carolina pipeline extension

The Williams Company is moving quickly ahead with plans to expand a natural gas pipeline in North Carolina.

Representatives of the Tulsa-based company gave a presentation in recent days with officials of one of the three counties where Williams plans to add 28 miles of pipeline to its Transco network. Williams intends to begin construction in Guilford, Forsyth and Davidson counties.

The company is awaiting final approval and hopes to begin construction sometime in 2026. As for safety concerns raised by some residents, a company spokeswoman gave assurances.

“Along other parts of our systems, we have a history of safely operating through ball fields, near schools, behind church parking lots,” said Kyle Tarpley, a representative from The Williams Company. “We have a history of safe operations near community assets.”
