Rig counts tumble across U.S. and declined in Oklahoma

 

 

The lastest Baker Hughes rig count shows another slide in oil field and gas activity as the nation’s total fell by 10, leaving 566 rigs searching for oil and gas. The decline included a loss in Oklahoma’s fields.

The count of oil rigs declined by 8 to 465 in the past week while there was a drop of 2 gas rigs to 98. The number of miscellaneous rigs was unchanged at 3.

The U.S. count, according to Baker Hughes, is down 34 from a yeaer ago when the total was 600 oil and gas rigs. The decline included a drop of 32 oil rigs and one gas rig along with one miscellaneous rig. The latest offshore rig count remains at 11.

Oklahoma recorded a decline of two oil and gas rigs to 53. Still, the state’s total is 23% higher than a year ago.

Texas recorded a drop of 5 rigs to 266 and is down 7% from last year’s count. New Mexico fell by 2 to 92 rigs and North Dakota recorded the same loss of 2 rigs, leaving 30 as active. Louisiana was unchanged at 30. Colorado remained at 8 but is 43% below the count one year earlier.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita reported the Kansas rig count fell one to 19 rigs. Ohio’s count grew by 2 to 12 rigs but Pennsylvania’s total dropped by one to 17. Utah slipped one to 11 rigs and West Virginia was unchanged at 8. Wyoming added one to reach 21 total rigs. California was unchanged at 6 and Alaska remained at 10 rigs.
