Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, claiming there is a fuel shortage in her state and neighboring ones as well, has declared an emergency, a move that waived trucking hours all in the name of fuel.
Her office on Friday said the shortage is causing long lines at fuel terminals and also disrupting supply delivery. The Kansas Corporation Commission approved a 14-day temporary waiver of federal regulations limiting service hours for all intrastate and interstate carriers that provide direct help.
“I am issuing this declaration to help alleviate the delay in getting the fuel to the end user,” Kelly said in a statement. “This is not just a Kansas issue; our neighboring states are experiencing the same delays.”
KSNW TV in Wichita quoted an industry spokesman as indicating some Kansas operators are obtaining their fuel from Texas and Colorado.
