Arkansas is apparently going to be the site of yet a third large data center.
According to the Arkansas Business Daily Report, Google is planning a $10 billion data center in West Memphis. Code-named Project Pyramid, it will be built on a nearly 1,200 acre site with five data center buildings, office buildings and an on-site substation.
The data center will be powered by Entergy Arkansas and once it’s completed, will employ about 300 workers. A Google entity identified as Groot LLC, bought the land last year and submitted plans for the site to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers earlier this year.
Google isn’t saying much publicly about the project. West Memphis becomes the third Arkansas city to be chosen as the site for a data center. Previous centers have been announced in Conway and Little Rock.
Google built a large data center in 2007 in Pryor, Oklahoma.
