Another setback for Summit Carbon Solutions, the company wanting to build a several-state carbon capture pipeline in the Upper Midwest.

South Dakota regulators voted this week to deny the company’s permit application, calling it “not viable” in a 2-1 vote. Summit is a company that had the support three years ago of Continental Resources founder Harold Hamm who pledged $250 million toward the project which was described as the world’s largest carbon capture and sequestration effort.

The company proposed building the pipeline in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota and said it would carry carbon dioxide emissions from ethanol plants to an underground storage site in North Dakota.
