More than 3 million acres of federal land in five western states are now under new lease to energy companies.

The move was made shortly after President Trump took office and Doug Burgum became the Secretary of the Interior. It was also a reversal of the Biden administration energy policies including the moratorium it adopted on new oil and natural gas lease sales on federal land.

The leases involved seven parcels in New Mexico and resulted in nearly $21 million for the federal government.
