No parts of Oklahoma are under what experts classify as “Extreme Drought” or “Exceptional Drought.” But other parts of the state that are abnormally dry remain steady, including nearly 14% at severe levels, and perhaps could be eased by the rain in the Easter Weekend forecast.
Climatologist Gary McManus with the Oklahoma Mesonet suggested the rain could go a long way in easing some of the dry parts of the state, especially those in the western regions.
“It’s not like we have a choice, but coming from where we were a month ago with 130+ consecutive days without significant moisture, this will still be a big improvement. And you never know, these storms could over-produce,” wrote McManus in a Thursday morning Mesonet update.
The forecast includes a chance of severe weather on Friday and Saturday but the tornado threat is low.
