$1 billion data center to be located in Arkansas

The rapid growth of data centers across the U.S. has electric grid operators concerned about the ability to meet the expanding demand for electrical power.

One of the latest planned data centers will be in Conway, Arkansas where the city council approved a memorandum of understanding this week with an unnamed Fortune 100 company. The report by Arkansas Business indicated it will be a $1 billion data center and would also be the largest capital investment in Conway city history.

The data center will mean Conway will have to make infrastructure improvements including a new pump station and pipeline to provide cooling water. Conway is located along Interstate 40 and north of Little Rock in the central part of Arkansas.

About 50 high-quality jobs would be created and the data center would be 300,000-square feet in size. Some of the Fortune 100 companies building such data centers include Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Meta and Oracle.
